Members of the Block watch community can be very excited about a new resource available to the Block Watch program in every neighbourhood across the country.
The Block watch program addresses the issues of isolation and separation that crime creates and feeds upon.
The Program has been effective in reducing residential Break and Enters by up to 60 percent.
Block watch works by forging a bond among neighbours and improves relations between the Police and the community it serves.
Challenges for initiating a block watch program in some neighbourhoods can be:
All of these challenges have just received a massive boost today with the emergence of MyCommunityGuide.ca as a resource for this neighbourhood crime reduction program. MyCommunityGuide.ca is a powerful and innovative tool now available to every neighbourhood in the country - free of charge.
Here's how it works:
Each participating neighbourhood is provided their own community website. This website includes an area for the Block watch program in your neighbourhood where residents can learn about the benefits of program. This area allows residents to immediately join or get involved in the program. No private or personal information is shared or required. See: why list your group/association
Members are free to share information in the section that serves as a community bulletin board. Block watch captains can contact members with any suspicious activity or crime alerts. Newsletters can also be printed and distributed from the website for increased awareness.
The entire program is completely free to the community.
Because the program is hosted prominently on the community website, Block watch gains increased visibility; an effective communication tool, all on a very accessible platform for its residents.
